In 1987, McKeenhan and two others, Kevin Max Smith and Michael Tait, formed the hit Christian band, DC Talk. They started out having just McKeenhan and Tait meeting each other at Liberty University. The two recorded a song McKeenhan had written called “Heavenbound" and began performing for the Liberty University students. Soon, the song was selling out many, many copies of Chirstian Rhymes to a Rhythm, Tait and McKeenhan’s demo tape. |

Following the song, Kevin Max Smith, who was from a campus rock band, joined Tait and McKeenhan. The trio started out as “DC Talk and the One Way Crew,” and was later simplified to “dc Talk,” which stands for “Decent Christian Talk.” |
